Performance Art

Using either Karen Finley or Danny Hoch, explain any part of their work that you can relate with and why? Which topics and issues do they address that the mainstream media doesn’t even want to touch?

  1. I really enjoyed reading Danny Hoch's work, i felt like he addressed real issues that people can relate to, especially the one about him working at McDonalds. I think his work is hilariously funny but he still manages to get his point across. He speaks about issues that happen in our everyday lives that people are afraid to really address. In his monologues, he gets his point across but has a sense of humor about it.

Karen Finley's work is more serious and deals with more controversial issues. Her method is more serious and more outragous. While Hoch uses humor and outragous language to express himself, Finley brings her work to life with props, her performances are more visual and more serius.

They address topics, like racism, sexual abuse, inequality and injusticeness. These are topics that most people are afraid to openly speak about.

  2. I agree with Donaldson and looking at the work of Danny Hoch I can see why most people can relate to him more than Karen Finely because of her work being more serious than Hoch's, but on the other hand people that have been physically abused and ridiculed because of their race and looks I can see why Finley's work can reach those type of people on a more personal level. Well its obvious on the type work these two performance artists are trying convey and that's about people being discriminated and abused.
